What is a 'Virtual Team'?
While based in the Mid-Atlantic region, 185 for Heroes gives runners throughout the country a chance to participate in our grassroots event that raises funds and awareness for wounded veterans. In the beginning years, the Georgetown Running Club (GRC), a founding partner of 185 for Heroes, broke up into teams during the week of the run. While the official 185 runners were out on the trail running from Cumberland to D.C., the GRC's teams competed against each other with a goal for each team to collectively run 185 miles AND to raise funds and awareness for wounded veterans.
Stemming from what GRC started, 185 for Heroes is launched the 'Virtual Teams' program to allow runners from around the country to get involved. This means that you too can run for the cause! Form a team with your friends, family, and/or co-workers to run a collective 185 miles while our team is out on the trail running from Cumberland to DC (September 15th - 21st 2013). It doesn't matter where you are or what level of runner you are! Join with as many or few people as you wish. In addition to racking up the miles, each team and team member gets their own customizable fundraising page to benefit wounded veterans. After the September 21st, each team sends in their mileage and fundraising total to 185 for Heroes. It's a fun, worthwhile challenge for any runner and supporter of our veterans!
