As Memorial Day weekend approaches, please take the time to pay tribute to those men and women who have, and are putting their lives on the line to protect our everyday freedoms. We are all forever in their debt and we thank them from the deepest depths of our hearts. As said by the WWP, the greatest casualty is being forgotten. Have a safe holiday weekend.
There has been some exciting developments in the past week. First of all, my sister Ashley has been granted Permissive TDY from her leadership in her Command in order to come out to Maryland and join us in the run. Originally this was how we wanted to do this event, brother and sister running side by side, but we were not confident in the fact that she would be allowed to take a week of Permissive TDY for this event. We just got word this morning that her Command has expressed great support in her and this cause, thus granting her the time.
Another new development is that we will be dedicating each day of the 7-day run to a wounded warrior. We have already contacted several wounded veterans but are not quite to seven yet. Once we get the full seven, there will be a new tab on the web page titled "Meet the Warriors". On that page there will be a brief bio on the warriors and how the Wounded Warrior Project helped them. The goal of this is to pay tribute to these brave men and women but also to show our following how truly significant and important the WWP is and how their donation will make a difference.
The other excited news that has materialized since our last blog is the addition of several new sponsors. The Family Bike Shop of Crofton Maryland will be outfitting our bike crew with the supplies needed for the 7-day haul. Thanks Jonathon and Sarah! We have also teamed up with the Georgetown University Running Club! They will be playing a crucial role in the finish line celebration. If everything goes according to plan, the celebration will be held on the Georgetown University campus. Lets keep our fingers crossed!
